Ice Cream Sandwich keyboard (no root)

Posted by Adam80460

With the release of Google's new iteration of Android -Ice Cream Sandwich- we have seen many parts of the OS ported over so that we can enjoy them early. While scanning the interwebs I came across this post on XDA from a user named for.digit and low and behold there it was in all its Ice Cream goodness.

Although its minus the voice-to-text feature that is one of ICS high points, it shows off how well they improved the keyboard from its Honeycomb predecessor.

Here is the eye candy and direct download:

Android Market Updates

Posted by QBall45

Looks like our Android Market has updated to include a Music section. This goes rather nicely with the new Google Music app that was juat released. If you have not been pushed this Market update try clearing data & cache for the Market. Do this by going to settings>applications then locate the Market and tap clear cache and data. Followed with a reboot should give you the updated Market.

I suspect there's now a bit of competition for Apples iTunes.

Rom Review: SkyRaider Zeus Release Version

Posted by QBall45

If you read my rom review on SkyRaider Zeus Preview than you know how excited I was to hear Ihtfp69 planned update for Halloween.

image
Waking up to this image posted in new threads on the bamf forums was extremely exciting. As the hours ticked by the page views and thread comments grew unbelievably for an as yet unreleased rom.  There out of the blue comes a little tweet.  Not one of announcement, rather two with download links.  Waiting all day was excruciatingly painful but oh so worth it.

Check out the official threads for complete details on this. SkyRaider Zeus v1.0 Inc2 and SkyRaider Zeus v1.0 Bolt

image

Sure enough it looks like another Sense based rom to me. Notice anything different?

image

There, have a closer look. Yes, that's user re-mappable dock buttons. Tap my left button for Plume. Long press for the app drawer. Tap the center Phone button you get the phone dialer of course. Long press shows my Gmail. Tap on the right button for Kik. And a long press for Google Talk. That makes a total six buttons where I'd normally expect three. A perfectly sweet enhancement if you ask me.

The next two images show an unexpected yet very welcome addition to the app drawer. If you look in the app drawer you will find "SkyRaider Settings" which allows the user to modify a number of different features.

I found something I've not seen in other Sense roms. Tap on the top bar in the app drawer and the drawer closes. A neat feature in my opinion.

Mods
I can not speak about mods for the Bolt as I have not heard one way or another. However, I can tell you that asollerd has done a fine job of providing us Inc2 users with some great mod options. Check them out HERE.

The Bottom Line:
This is yet another fine Sense based rom by Ihtfp69. If you rock the Thunder Bolt or Incredible 2 I highly recommend you have a look. I don't think you'll be disappointed. With the re-mappable dock bar Ihtfp69 has managed to pull me away from Adw Launcher Ex, a personal favorite home screen replacement application. I find I'm content with the Sense home screen.

Google TV Update

Posted by Adam80460

For those of you that own a Google TV device have been patiently waiting for the update to Honeycomb. And the good news is, unless you have been sleeping under a rock you already have been calmed by the news that is on its way with in the next few weeks/days.  Google TV owners received an email tonight somewhat announcing it.

Hello,

Thank you for having purchased a Google TV product with the initial version of our software.

We’re excited to send you this advance notice about a number of software improvements that will soon be coming to your device through an automatic update. The update is rolling out over the next few weeks.

When you see a dialogue box on your TV saying “update available,” feel free to click “update now,” otherwise you can postpone the update by a few hours by clicking “not now” (handy if you’re in the middle of watching a movie). Once the update has downloaded, just follow the on-screen instructions.

The on-screen instructions include a quick guide to what’s new, but here’s an overview of the exciting new features we’re bringing you:

Keep it simple

The interface is now much simpler. The new customizable home screen gets you to your favorite content quickly. And within “all apps” you can see all of your shortcuts, similar to your Android phone or tablet.

Make it easy to find something worth watching

We’ve improved search across the board for content from live TV, Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO, and more. But what if you don’t know what to search for? There’s now an app called “TV & Movies” that let’s you easily browse through 80,000 movies and TV episodes across cable or satellite, Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, and many other sites. If you’ve opted in to recommendations, we can better predict what you want to watch next.

Make YouTube better on TV

We’re launching a new YouTube experience specifically built for Google TV. It is now fast and easy to get to your favorite HD-quality YouTube entertainment. And we’ve integrated YouTube more closely with Google TV search, so that you can turn virtually any topic – mountain biking, cooking, etc. – into a channel

Bring more apps to TV

We are opening up the TV to the creativity of content creators large and small through Android Market. Android developers can now bring existing mobile apps or entirely new ones to TV. Initially, the number of apps won’t be large – for example, apps requiring a touch screen, GPS, or telephony won’t show up – but 50 developers have seeded the Market with some cool and useful apps for the TV. We’re excited to see the number of apps grow.

For even more information on these changes, check out these links:

  1. Help Center
  2. Website

You can also see our revised Additional Terms of Service and Privacy Note that apply to our updated software here

Happy TV watching!

The Google TV Team

I get the feeling the update is closer than we all think.
